A commissioned portrait for a surprise birthday gift painted in System 3 acrylics on a deep edged canvas. A number of reference photographs were used to gather shape, definition, detail and texture, but artistic licence was used on Amelia’s foreground leg as this was not available to me.

I used a blue toned grey to anchor the subject and a lighter mix with added burnt sienna to help the background recede. The completed portrait was then given two coats of matte varnish to protect it.
