This piece of work was produced by one of my young teenage students during lessons held at my studio.
A romantic subject drawn out with pastel pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes Artists’ paper, in sepia and completed with Inscribe block pastels.
The scene depicts City Hall station in New York, built in 1904. It’s lavish architecture incorporated curved arches and ceilings, with no sign of a straight line. The platforms were designed without obstructions to hinder the view and the way was lit with spectacular electric chandeliers.
Sadly the station was closed in 1945, due to lack of use, but fortunately it was never demolished.
