The story attached to this commissioned pastel portrait is a sad tale.
I was approached by the clients who wanted a gift for their close friends. It was explained that the friends had resided in Spain for a number of years and during this time had taken in a feral kitten which subsequently developed eye infections leading to cataracts, then blindness. The poor cat was then attacked by a German Shepherd dog and left with a damaged and deformed rear leg. Eventually the couple returned to England with their beloved cat and shortly after their arrival he was run over and killed in a car accident and Lucky was his name!
The clients wanted Lucky to be painted wearing a bandana as he had done so happily during his life and they also wanted a background in keeping with his original surroundings. So by using reference from a few photographs I produced an image which included these elements.
