An acrylic demonstration for Southend Art Club, held in the gardens of their cottage premises in Rochford. I started with a white primed canvas on which I began to construct the image, firstly planning out the triangular relationship between the eyes and the nose. I continued to build the portrait from the centre outwards until I was happy with the scale of the subject, after which, I added the background while cutting into the edges of the image.

I finished this portrait in my studio at a later date, having added further detail and depth of colour.

Finally, I chose a gilded frame to enhance the golden tones in the lion’s mane.
