I was approached by a colleague to produce a portrait for one of their friends who had recently lost her German Shepherd cross-breed, Kharn. The picture was produced on a light blue grey coloured textured board using pastels both hard and soft, the finer details being rendered by the use of pastel pencils.
White highlights, especially on the teeth, were produced by using small pieces of very soft handmade pastel and sculptured with the aid of a shaper and the point of a sharpened pastel pencil.
The background was blended by using a shaped section of polystyrene in order to create a very smooth transition between the colour tints.
My thanks are not enough for the wonderful picture you have done of my Kharn.
All I can tell you is it will be in pride of place in our lounge and remind me of so many happy memories.
