A returning client from five years ago, who originally commissioned me to paint a portrait of their previous rabbit, titled ‘Steve’. This new commission was produced in pastels once again, using a range of hard, soft and handmade pastels, with the final flourishes drawn in with pastel pencils. I used my favoured Sennelier pastel board and chose the colour ‘sand’, which complimented Billy’s fur adding an element of warmth beyond the cool blues used to frame his profile. I initially started the portrait with bright orange hues and gradually overlaid more subdued tones to achieve depth of colour.
