A previous client commissioned this pastel portrait for her daughter’s Christmas present as she sadly lost her two year old pet cat ‘Alfie’ to illness in 2012.

Salmon coloured textured board was used to complete this portrait in keeping with the tones of Alfie’s fur.  Firstly I blocked out areas with hard pastels to form the features and patterns in the coat.  Once these were established I graduated to soft pastels to achieve a realistic effect and pastel pencils were used for precision to add finer details around the eyes and whiskers.

The background was a shaded mix of greens and blues to create a turquoise hue and act as a complimentary colour to the subject matter.

You recently did a beautiful picture of my cat Alfie.  It was a lovely surprise as it was a Christmas present.  I absolutely love it  and it is hanging proudly next to our other picture that you also produced of Donald which we also love!

Eventually we would  like to have our other two cats drawn by you to complete our collection!
